Karnataka BJP MLA’s Son Rides Horse During Lockdown Without Mask on Highway, Video Goes Viral

A visual perhaps worthy of featuring in a Bollywood flick where a BJP MLA’s son rides a horse on the national highway with the advantage of lesser traffic due to lockdown has now gone viral.

After social media outrage over the incident, police have now said that they are looking into the matter.

The person riding the horse in the video in the middle of the lockdown and not even caring to wear a mask, is Bhuvan Kumar, son of CS Niranjan Kumar who represents BJP from Gundulpet constituency of Karnataka’s Chamrajnagar district.

He can be seen roaming on his horse even as the motorists around him seem amused and ride cautiously on the same road.

Kumar is also seen without a face mask, a compulsory accessory since the pandemic has hit the country.

Local authorities said no case has been registered against Kumar yet. Chamrajnagar SP said they are investigating the violations for riding a horse on the highway and an inquiry has been initiated.

Amid the outbreak, Kumar’s antics drew the anger of several social media users.

BJP MLA Niranjan Kumar, meanwhile, has confirmed to India Today, “It is my son is in the video. There is no rule on paper that says that one can’t ride a horse.”

“I was in Bangalore yesterday [Monday] and Mysore today. I don’t know what happened, I will find out. If there is a fault I will tell him what’s wrong and what’s right. I won’t defend. If there’s a mistake, I will tell him,” the Karnataka BJP MLA said.

Niranjan Kumar added that his family currently lives in a green zone and that not everyone was wearing a mask in his area. “Not everyone is wearing a mask but we should ask everyone to cover their face, including my son.”

The total number of cases in Karnataka has breached the 900-mark, with the state reporting 42 new corona positive cases, as per the health department on Tuesday.

Forty-two new cases include 15 from Bagalkote, nine from Dharwad, five from Hassan, three from Bengaluru urban, two each from Dakshina Kannada, Yadgir and Bidar, and one each from Ballari, Chikkaballapura, Mandya, and Kalaburagi.

Earlier in March, JDS MLA from Gubbi SR Srinivas (Vasu) was caught defying the nationwide lockdown order in Tumakuru. The MLA was seen playing with his grandson in a remote-controlled toy car on the deserted Bangalore-Honnavar (BH Road) highway.
