In an incident that has left two families stunned and an entire village in disbelief, a woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district eloped with her daughter’s fiancé just ten days before the wedding. The bride-to-be, her father, and her relatives are now grappling with not just emotional betrayal but also a significant financial loss.
A Wedding Turns into a Nightmare
Shivani, a young woman from a village under Madrak police station in Aligarh, was set to marry Rahul (name changed) on April 16. Preparations were in full swing. Invitations had been sent out, jewelry was arranged, and the family had saved ₹3.5 lakh in cash for the big day. However, things took an unexpected and shocking turn when Shivani’s mother, Anita, disappeared—along with the groom.
According to Shivani, the two had been in regular contact for months. “My mother and Rahul used to talk on the phone for hours—sometimes up to 22 hours a day. We thought they were just discussing wedding arrangements,” she said. “But on Sunday, she vanished with him, taking all the money and jewelry from our home. She hasn’t left behind even ₹10.”
A Family Betrayed
Jitendra Kumar, Shivani’s father, works in Bengaluru and had heard about the frequent conversations between his wife and the groom. However, he chose not to interfere, hoping the wedding would resolve any unusual tensions. “I was suspicious, but I stayed quiet. I never imagined something like this,” he told reporters.
The betrayal didn’t stop at personal relationships. Anita allegedly took all the money that had been saved for the wedding—over ₹3.5 lakh in cash—and jewelry worth over ₹5 lakh. Jitendra has since filed a missing persons report for his wife at the local police station.
A Groom’s Disappearance—and a Final Message
Rahul also disappeared the same day. According to his own family, he had left home under the pretense of shopping for wedding attire. His phone was switched off shortly afterward. When his family attempted to reach out to the bride’s family for help, they discovered that Anita was missing too.
Hours later, Jitendra received a call from Rahul. “He told me I had troubled my wife for 20 years and that I should forget about her,” Jitendra said. After that, both Anita and Rahul switched off their phones. They have not been heard from since.
Police Investigation Underway
Police at Madrak police station confirmed that a missing persons complaint had been registered and that efforts were underway to locate the pair. “We are conducting a search operation and appropriate legal action will be taken once the couple is found,” said Station House Officer Arvind Kumar.
A Village in Shock
The incident has sent shockwaves through the village and surrounding areas. Locals are struggling to come to terms with the bizarre situation. The groom, who was supposed to become a part of the bride’s family, instead ran away with her mother—leaving behind not just scandal but a trail of heartbreak and financial ruin.
What was supposed to be a joyous occasion has become a nightmare for Shivani and her family. They are now left to pick up the pieces—not just emotionally, but also financially.
As the search for the runaway couple continues, the story remains a painful reminder that sometimes, truth can be stranger—and more heartbreaking—than fiction.
