Patiala District Bar Association to observe “no work” on Thursday afternoon to watch India- England T20 Semifinal match.

LiveLaw shared the notice for the same and since then has drawn a lot of criticism calling it unprofessional and selfish.

The notice read “Today an emergency meeting of the executive was convened and held under the presidentship of Jatinder Pal Singh Ghumaan held that due Semi Final Match T-20 World cup between India Vs. England today i.e. 10/11/2022 at about 1:30 PM.

It is therefore resolved that the DBA, Patiala will observe No Work after lunch in District Counts, Patiala.

All respected Judicial Officers, Revenue Courts, Presiding officers of Tribunals, and Commissioner Courts are requested to adjourn the matter listed today to some other dates.

This implies that all judicial work, including Revenue Court, will observe a holiday after lunch due to a cricket match.

This inconvenience to the public has not gone unnoticed by the public and it has drawn ire from them.

India is a cricket-crazy nation and the sport finds a special place in the lives of its people. But the move to observe holidays at the expense of Indian citizens denied justice has not at all gone well with many.

The semifinal between India and England in the world cup was particularly important as India getting through this match meant an India vs Pakistan final.

A majority of Indians were looking forward to the moment. Had that really materialized, there would have been even more notices for requesting holiday (unfortunately) at the expense of citizen convenience?
