Journo Navika Kumar Credits India’s Olympics Wins to Minister Anurag Thakur, Gets Roasted

It all seemed like a normal interview with the sports minister of India Anurag Thakur, but it soon turned to be a viral condemnation of the host of the TV program Navika Kumar, some were funny, others were very critical.

It began with Navika telling Mr. Thakur on her news TV show “Right after you came, it’s like there is a shower of medals. First, it started with Mirabai Chanu, then PV Sindhu got us a medal and even the hockey team is performing well,” she spoke in Hindi all this while.

She further asked what did you actually speak to them. Given the fact that many netizens consider her to be a pro-government journalist, they believed this time she went too far in taking away credit from the participating athlete, support staff, and many others who are working hard to better India’s performance in the Olympics while praising the minister.

Considering that it was only this month on the 7th of July, Mr. Thankur was appointed as the new Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, taking over from Kiren Rijiju and would have just taken charge of the affairs, many believed the journalist crossed the limits of mere sycophancy.

Social media in India is quite unforgiving these days and there was a full meme fest and she was already trending on number 1 on Twitter in India.

Some of the comments were so witty that it was really hard to stop your laughter. Some on the other hand were satirical. Nevertheless, it was quite interesting to read the comments.

In the 2019 Delhi elections, The current sports minister, Anurag Thakur was accused of being one of the leaders who incited communal tension in Delhi using hate speech “traitors of the country”, to which his audience replied “shoot the bastards”, which were repeated by him in January 2020 at a BJP rally.
